Catering Ideas - Shaadi Menu in Budget

Most Pakistanis are foodies.

We all love food but sometimes it gets really hard to decide a menu for events, doesn’t it? And if I’m not wrong (which I’m probably not ‘cause I’m always up for free food!) it gets specifically hard to decide a menu for the wedding events.

Let me tell you one thing that there are three types of people;

  • The ones who want fancy food (for Insta) no matter the taste
  • The ones who want good food no matter the price
  • And the ones who want both the fancy and bud-pleasing food but in budget!

No doubt the budget is dependent on the caterer you’re going with. But it also depends on the menu!

So, today I’m (taking pride in being a Kashmiri) and giving you a list of different traditional and not-so-traditional menus that you can get prepared for your Shadi;

Palak Biryani

No, not that YouTube-famous biryani cooked in spinach but an aromatic chicken biryani made in traditional masalas with Kari Patta on top served separately with Palak Gosht. Although, the spinach tastes heavenly in mutton but you can get it done with beef as well just for the sake of the budget.

This is a traditional but long-forgotten dish that used to be served on Mehandi nights.

Qorma and other Chicken Curries

Qorma with Roghni Naan is one go-to dish for all. You can get the Qorma done in chicken, beef or mutton and it’d be still in budget!

Get the cold drinks, salad, raita, and kulfa ready to complete this desi-menu. You can also get a juicy Karahi done instead. Ah! Chicken Makhni would also go.

Bar BQ Baby!

Oh man! Who doesn’t love Bar BQ?!

How about live cooking! Get a grill set up and hire a cook if it’s a big gathering or you can do it yourself if it’s just you and your cousins and friends and a family gathering. Have fun grilling, open up some chilled coke and sprite and enjoy the bonfire.

You can prepare Champ, Tikka, Shashlik, Kebab even Fish depending on your budget.

Andey Kofte

Now, this menu is also an old one. People usually don’t choose this dish. But most people actually love it and you can make your menu a real hit by serving it with Chicken Pulao, Qorma and Roghini Naan. You can serve as much variety as you can afford.

Chinese

Not just the Chowmein, Manchurian, Shashlik, Jalfrezi, Soups, Fusilli Pasta, and Fried Rice but Kimchi and Momos are also hit these days.

Well, I know Kimchi is Korean but who cares it’s all yummy. They’re fun side-serves!

Junk food

Talking of Chinese, how about some junk food for all! Spiced up egg fried-rice, Fries and Potato curls of different flavors, Fried Chicken, Chicken Daabu, Broast, Fish-fingers, Nuggets, Popcorn Chicken and Russian Salad, there are various options just choose anything. You can even order a huge pizza too, no one’s judging. Just be careful enough to not get your elders ill.

Vari Patta

This dish has always been specifically famous for Mehandi or Mayun events as a classic. To be honest, it’s Butt clan’s personal favorite!

Now how about we talk a bit about side-serves as well!

Desserts

Apart from Firni, Gajar Halwa, Pehtha, Kulfa, Cream Chaat or Russian Salad; other sweet-dishes are getting pretty famous such as Triffles, Lava Cakes, customized Muffins, and Cupcakes. Many people also get their separate huge wedding-cake now.

In drinkables, cold-drinks and Kashmiri Chaye are old-stuff now. The hot stuff is Fresh Juices, Mocktails, Cocktails, Ice-Slush, and Smoothies.

Oh, I’m just so unable to keep that Kitkat-Shake out of my head.

Oh hey! How about a Gol Gappa stall!! Man… girls love it.

Now while you decide your final menu, I’ll get something to eat as I’m starving after having to talk about all this Yummalicious stuff. Good luck!
