Marriage Practices and Rituals in Afghanistan- Today with Ahmed Zia Momand

         Decisions, Desires and Diversity- Afghan Weddings

We've brought to you a new segment where we'll be sharing with you some very special wedding cultures around the globe. Let's get started!

From surprising to heart warming wedding customs around the globe, it has proved that there are number of ways to say I do or simply Qabool Hai, so today we're going to explore Afghanis say Qabool hai!

Three questions will be our main focus for today;

Our honorable guest Ahmed Zia Momand provides a comprehensive picture of some matters related to Afghan weddings.

Law of Afghan Weddings

When it comes to a wedding celebration the main point of focus is usually the ceremony. All have some resemblance in their ceremonies but different ways of celebrating. And these ceremonies are always in accordance with country’s law.

So, let's see in Afghanistan whether is it walking down the aisle, saying Qabul hai thrice or handfasting!

 Well our guest says it's Qabul hai!!

"We have little bit similarities with the Pakistan as well as India, Tajikistan and Uzbikstan. And in every wedding, the main thing is Nikkah"

Now let's get to our kind of Question!

How's the match-making done bro?

"The majority people in Afghanistan since its Islamic country and still in remote areas like Mingrahar, North and South Afghanistan, Its really like arrange marriage."

Ahmed melancholy stated that;

 "And Unforunatley lots of females are suffering the system of arrange marriage"

Ahmed told us that although marriages are majorly arranged (we can tell that many are forced as well), much of the developed youth is trying to change the traditions.

They don't resist the traditional ways but advocate that at least let the girl and boy meet and communicate with each other before marriage so that they know if it's the right match!

"Some of the educated families in Kabul allows their children to do so."

Y'all know what? We also advocate the same idea!

Green Wedding Dress- Sign of Prosperity

One very special question that is frequently asked when it comes to cultural differences in wedding celebration revolves around the bride's dress!

What kind of dresses brides wear on their big day?

"Green is a very traditional and particular color for wedding in Afghanistan. Wearing green color at wedding is a sign of prosperity and success and luck. A lot of people during the Nikkah or any other ceremony they are willing to, wear green colour." Ahmedzia Momand

Ooh! so the green is the new red! Are you willing to replace the red lehnga with green?

Wedding Functions of Afghan Wedding

According to what Ahmed told us there's nothing much difference to find in the way Pakistanis and their neighbor Afghanis celebrate weddings.

Here are the celebratory events;

So, that's pretty similar!

But that's not it yet..

Families with better financial status also usually celebrate a special event that isn't done here!

Choosing someone to spend your whole life with can be pretty challenging though but don't worry my friend! That's what HK is here for!
